Frintezza Defeated on Bartz
On October 7, 2006, the Uprising alliance of Bartz became the first in North America to defeat Frintezza, the son of Baium. Forty-five players from the Enmity, Reborn, and LivinLegends clans battled and killed Scarlet van Halisha, Frintezza's minion. Read more about this fantastic achievement in an interview with the leader of the raid.
1. Can you tell us about yourself and the alliances that defeated Frintezza and Scarlet van Halisha?
To introduce myself, my character is Kularus, a level 78 Doomcryer on Bartz, I've been playing since Open Beta. To introduce my alliance, it is named Uprising which is made up of three clans, Enmity led by Ormjaevel (who is also the main alliance leader), Reborn led by Cogency, and the newest addition LivinLegends led by Airu. We formed Uprising back at the end of Chronicle 2, and have always been an alliance that has focused on pvp strength through teamwork and a tight knit group, versus power through numbers which is one of the main attributes which makes Frintezza such a good boss for our alliance.
2. Why did you want to kill Frintezza?
The first reason is definitely bragging rights. One of our clan members is korean and had kept track of Korean Frintezza attempts and they had never completed a raid, until finally a patch (the one that was just introduced to the PTS here) which nerfed Frintezza so that it was easy enough for them. We wanted the bragging rights to say we beat the un-nerfed version.
Furthermore we saw what dropped in Korea and it was roughly 1/2 of what Antharas drops, and considering Antharas has been beefed up alot and we don't have the strength to raid it now, Frintezza seemed like a good solution. Lastly of course is the precious necklace which is priceless to have.
3. How much time did you spend making the plans for battle?
We spent a lot of time debating what group setups would be best, combined with deciding a date where everyone of certain classes could come was very difficult. What makes Frintezza so hard is that being limited to five groups, you need the strongest five groups possible. Personally I'm sure I spent many hours putting groups together, but our alliance raids are always really lead through teamwork, and the raid couldn't have been pulled off without everyone working together.
4. How did you prepare for the fight?
Firstly we researched about the Korean attempts, we knew the Frintezza we're taking on is much stronger, but the raid is still essentially the same.
Secondly we tried some practice attempts without the 5 full perfect groups to get an idea of how much damage he does, if we even have a shot, and what classes do the best damage. In terms of right before our raid, we had perfect groups set up already, everyone knew what group they were in, what supplies to bring, and so forth.
5. What was the most challenging aspect of the battle? The most fun?
Personally the most challenging part I found was finding a date when 45 of the right classes of the right levels in our alliance of about 65 active players could all be on. Frintezza is so demanding of the level of players that go in, without S Grade MDef it really is just a deleveling service, and even with S Grade MDef it somewhat is.
During the raid itself, keeping proper buffs up is always a challenge, when people lose buffs it takes so much mp to rebuff them, and while unbuffed you are just waiting to die and so keeping up blessing of noblesse at all times is very key. The most fun part I would say was the accomplishment when he actaully died, but all of the animations involved when Scarlet von Halisha is summoned, and switches forms were amazing.
8. What advice would you give other players who wish to take on Frintezza?
I don't like to give too much away, we worked very hard to figure out proper tactics. As I previously said keeping up buffs is extremely important. As well be ready to take some XP loss, when Frintezza does its area of effect skills using blessed ressurections is very impractical, especially with all the skills he will use to interupt casting. Making use of the new Chronicle 5 bishop rez area of effect helped us out so much. Lastly have ingame sounds on for all the animations at the start of the raid and when Scarlet von Halisha changes form, they're awesome.
Thank you to Kularus of the Bartz server for answering our questions!
