Death and Life

Sepha had always been with Jessica. When Jessica’s parents abandoned her when she was young and she had to live in the streets of Elven Village, Sepha lived with her. Sepha was only a baby wolf then, but Jessica was fairly young as well. They were able to comfort each other and help each other through hard times. The two of them grew up and became close friends. They fought and trained together. Sepha was a big help when it was Jessica’s big day to become a Spellsinger.

They were both nomads, traveling from place to place in Aden. Jessica didn’t want to live in one of the cities because she had been with Sepha so long, it was weird being around people. Plus everyone was jumpy when they saw a wolf walking through town. Jessica didn’t mind though because she found the most joy when she was around Sepha, which was always.

Jessica and Sepha always had each others back, keeping each other alive. Jessica’s powerful spells and Sepha’s powerful bite made sure that their opponents didn’t stand long. They always wanted to be on the safe side though, so they rarely took more than one monster at a time, sometimes two. This way they made sure they could focus all their power on one monster to bring them down with a strong force. They stayed alive this way and had loads of riches between the two of them. Life was perfect until one day....

The sun was hot, so to escape the heat, Jessica and Sepha swam down the waters of one of the necropolis, Pilgrims Necropolis to be exact. They knew that the monsters inside were well below their skill, but they wanted to escape the heat. Also they had heard that these monsters carried more items than those in the above land. Another reason why this one was a very good place was because it wasn’t easy to get one monster alone, so by being far superior they could take on the extra monsters that would appear.

Upon first entering the necropolis she noticed a big difference than the world above. There were a lot of people walking about. Talking wasn’t the hard thing for Jessica. It was talking to other people because she would only say a little to Sepha and other times it seemed as Jessica and Sepha could communicate telepathically. Jessica walked by all the people in the lobby nervously because everyone was looking at her, not so much Sepha. It was the fact that she was far superior to anyone there and they could tell by the Zubei robes that she wore and Staff of Evil Spirits that she carried.

Jessica and Sepha managed to find a small room for themselves that held four monsters. Since they were weak monsters, such as Gigant Clerics, Holy Land Monks, and Lith Medium, they were able to quickly take out all four in one quick sweep.  They got next to nothing for killing them, but they didn’t care, it was a nice escape from the heat above.

They continued to go through the necropolis killing more and more monsters. It took only one to two spells to kill the monsters and about every three monsters had Adena with them, making it not totally unprofitable.

For the rest of the afternoon they went from room to room killing more and more monsters. After a while all their spoils made up a good quantity. They made around seventy thousand Adena and various materials and even managed to retrieve a Tabar that was still in good condition.

It was getting late and Jessica was running low on spiritshots as well as food for Sepha, so they headed for the exit. The whole day they hadn’t run into anyone, except for now, which was a male Dark Elven Abyss Walker. Jessica just continued walking past the man and Sepha did the same behind her. All of the sudden Jessica heard Sepha yelp behind her. Jessica turned around real quickly and saw Sepha lying on the floor dead. Standing above the wolf’s body was the Abyss Walker that had just past by, with a bloody dagger in his hand.

The Abyss Walker started to come at Jessica, but Jessica quickly shot him with a frost bolt and hydro blast spell killing him. After her rage was over she quickly rushed over to Sepha’s body. She picked up the wolf’s head and tears came pouring out of her eyes.

“How could I have let this happen” was all she could think about. “She was my best friend and I let her die.” Jessica continued to cry as she buried her face into the Sepha’s fur. Tears were making the wolf’s fur wet when all of the sudden Jessica hurt a whimper below her. She quickly shot up and saw Sepha get up like she wasn’t killed at all.

Jessica heard the movement of feet behind her and when she turned she saw a male Bishop with a female Silver Ranger and female Tyrant. It took her only a second to realize that this nice Bishop had resurrected Sepha. She quickly got up and went over to him and bowed before him.

“Thank you for helping my friend,” she said. “If there is anyway to repay you just let me know.”

“Don’t mention it,” the Bishop said. “We had been chasing after that guy for a few days now and thankfully you got him for us. You don’t need to repay us in anyway, except consider joining our clan. We are the Himiets. We go around and protect the world of Aden from people like him.”

Jessica didn’t know what to say. It was a nice offer, but that would mean that she would have to give up her seclusion from society. She thought about, but finally decided on joining. This world was expanding rapidly and if she wasn’t safe in a weak necropolis, then in places of her skill level would be even worse. She had to join or be swept away without anyone noticing.

“Only if Sepha can join as well,” she told the Bishop.

“It’s a deal,” said the Bishop and they shook hands.
